My skin; the bane of my life; the Jekyll and Hyde of the 21st century, seriously!
I can wake up one morning and my skin is like ‘Hey Beth, look at me today! I’m glowing, I look awesome, call me Catherine Zeta Jones’ (ok, not quite, but you get the point). And then one day later, I find myself avoiding my reflection at all costs to prevent a serious state of shock.
In the past I haven’t been too bothered, all I needed was a face wash, a concealer and a run of the mill moisturiser. Now that my teenage days are behind me, I have had enough of spots and dry, dull skin. Surely it’s my time to have a Princess Diaries makeover, right?
If you’ve checked out my bucket list, you will know that I am on a mission to perfect my skincare regime. Whether I will achieve it or not, who knows! However, in the last couple of months I have made more of an effort to address my temperamental skin, especially with winter’s harsh weather taking it upon itself to ruin any progress I might make. Leave me be already!
Earlier this month, I took advantage of ALL the Christmas sales and invested in some brilliant beauty bargains. Today, I am going to talk through my favourite ones and why they have earned their title as my ‘winter warriors’:
Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask
I am a total sucker for a good face mask. To me, there is nothing better than sitting in bed with a cup of green tea, listening to some Michael Buble and letting my face revitalise with a mask and some cucumber.
Cold weather and harsh winds are my worst nightmare when it comes to my skin – even if I am having a great skin day. I knew that this winter I needed a product that would spark a little life back into my complexion *enter The Body Shop’s Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask!*.
Previously, I have made my own face masks using recipes (is that what you call a face mask mix, a recipe? Hmm) from Pinterest. You know the score: banana, honey, avocado, oats, cucumber, coffee, blah blah.
Then I stumbled across this and think it is a key factor in helping me achieve a summer’s glow in winter. I often only apply this to my cheeks and chin, avoiding my forehead and nose at all costs as they get super dry and this mask would make that worse.
Vitamin C Microdermabrasion
The softest, yet most effective exfoliator I have ever tried. Bravo to The Body Shop, you did good; I simply can’t get enough of this Vitamin C Microdermabrasion!
The Body Shops’ Skin Care Diagnostic Tool recommended this beauty of a product to me as a solution to the dull, spot prone s**t I
like to call my skin.
I honestly can’t believe the difference after one wash! When I first used it I didn’t think it was harsh enough to be an exfoliator, as it is extremely gentle against the skin, however my face is left smoother and brighter after every use.
I know, I know, I KNOW: you should only use exfoliators a couple of days a week. Uhm, it is too good to limit to only two days a week, thank you.
Moisture Surge; Extended Thirst Relief
Bow down and embrace Clinique’s Moisture Surge in all of its moisturising glory!
I have suddenly noticed I have bags under my eyes. I am only twenty, is this some kind of sick joke? I don’t know whether it is the adjustment to a 9-5 job from a 9-5 snooze, Manchester’s toxic city air or whether this is just something I have to deal with now because I am twenty. Whatever it is, I don’t like it.
I first got this product as a freebie with some Clinique foundation and mixed it in to my Chanel Bronzing Base for a smoother application. More recently, this little tub of magic has been keeping my eyes from sinking back into my skull. I mean, I was starting to resemble Hades.
You only need a teeny amount for a pack-the-punch effect, which is why my freebie has lasted almost a year!
Cleanse and Polish; Hot Cloth Cleanser
This product is an absolute life saver!
I will admit that the Cleanse and Polish isn’t cheap, but my mother is a massive fan of all things Liz Earle so all it takes is some puppy dog eyes and few spots and she kindly gifts me with some goodies! And, if I am honest, it is completely worth spending a little more on, because it is THAT good!
I use this magic in a bottle twice a day, however I tend to use two applications when I use it on an evening; one to take my make-up off, the other to cleanse my face.
Whenever I run out of this, I can tell and it shows in my complexion. I lose a lot of brightness and generally look run down. This is why I am slowly becoming addicted to Liz Earle!
Brilliantly Bare; Beauty Enhancer
Make-up is a big factor in the way skin looks and feels, which is why it is so important to check every beauty product to ensure they are gentle and beneficial to your skin.
My make-up can look perfect and then a few hours later I get that beloved nose and cheek shine effect. Fantastic. No7’s Brilliantly Bare was recommended to me by a friend as it minimises shine, enhances radiance and prevents blemishes.
As well as improving my make-up application and longevity, this amazing primer (it can also be used as a foundation) softens and soothes my skin beautifully. My face feels awesome!
As you probably guessed from the name, Butter Yourself is a Soap & Glory moisturising special!
I am a complete fan girl of Soap & Glory. From their Peaches and Clean face wash and Sugar Crush shower gel, to their Thick and Fast mascara and The Fab Pore moisturising lotion – I LOVE IT.
Their Butter Yourself moisturiser leaves my skin smelling fabulous, feeling indulged and looking peachy and delightful. The perfect weapon against winter’s harshness!
So, there you have it: my favourite winter warriors. I can’t wait to come out of winter a winner, and these beauties are going to help me do it!
P.S. I hope you all have a gorgeous Christmas!
